Chiropractic Adjustments:

Chiropractic adjustments are used to restore motion in restricted joints of the spine and extremities. A physical exam along with palpation of the joints is used to find areas of restriction that need treatment. Adjustments often create an audible cavitation (popping/cracking) when applied to an area of joint restriction. This leads to relief of painful areas and relaxes surrounding tight muscles. For patients who prefer a gentler adjustment, we also provide mobilization that does not result in an audible cavitation. Joints often become restricted from poor posture, lack of movement, repetitive overuse, or past injuries.

Active Release Techniques® (ART):

Active Release Techniques® (ART) is a hands-on movement-based technique to treat both acute and chronic soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue injuries occur when a muscle, ligament, tendon or nerve become overly tight and motion becomes limited, often causing pain and decreased function. The treatment decreases trigger points and adhesions within the muscle, leading to improved ROM, proper joint mechanics, and decreased pain. ART is a perfect complement to chiropractic adjustments. Providing ART either before or after the adjustment helps to facilitate the healing process to get patients out of pain quicker, significantly helping to reduce treatment time.

Rehabilitation Exercises:

Specific corrective exercises are given to every patient to improve movement dysfunction and/or limit pain. This active component or what we like to call “homework” done by the patient is what maintains the improvements from the hands-on care provided at NexGen Wellness & Sports Medicine. These exercises bridge the gap between treatments and are performed at home to create long lasting results. Ultimately, this will limit future injuries for our patients.

Graston/Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization:

Graston technique is a form of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) that is used to treat soft tissue conditions by breaking up scar tissue and adhesions within the musculature. The goal of performing Graston to an area is to promote an inflammatory response which in turn will facilitate a quicker healing process to occur. This technique has proven to accelerate recovery time, improve range of motion, and restore normal function.

Flexion-Distraction Therapy (Decompression):

Flexion distraction therapy aims to reverse spinal disc compression by gently stretching your spine. A special table provides the movement necessary to stretch your spine. You lie face down on this table and your chiropractor secures your ankles using a comfortable strap. Next, the table will move the lower half of your body up and down in a slow, rhythmic motion. As your feet lower to the floor, your chiropractor may also provide gentle pressure to your spine to enhance the effect. This movement gently stretches your spine, pulling the vertebrae further apart. Since your discs are flexible and spongy, they are decompressed and restored to their natural state. The most immediate and significant benefit of flexion distraction is reduced pressure on your spinal discs.

Cupping:

Cupping is another therapy that we utilize in order to promote quicker healing processes to occur by facilitating an inflammatory response to a certain area. Cupping has shown to be an effective form of treatment in those experiencing acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain by decreasing overall inflammation, decreasing muscle tension and increasing blood flow to the particular area.
